Birmingham City have stunned supporters with the dismissal of manager Garry Monk, as announced by the club’s official website.
The 40-year-old proved popular with the St Andrew’s faithful and steered the club to safety in the Championship despite being dealt the blow of a ten-point deduction.
However, his tenure has come to an end as Birmingham’s board of directors believe that his departure is in the club’s long-term interests.
The news was met with fury from Birmingham supporters, the vast majority of which laid the blame at the door of the board:
I’m sorry but it’s not in the best interest of OUR club at all, previous lessons haven’t been learnt as once again u have ripped OUR club apart. Can we get refunds on our season tickets? Nobody will wanna work for u lot! A huge thanks to @GarryMonk for all u have done we love u!

@XuandongRen @Birmingnese do you not see how the fanbase (h)as been at it’s happiest for years because of @GarryMonk? You won’t be able to attend another match without a handful of bodyguards you morons.

Only way this ends up a positive move is if we get Chris Houghton.

I want these owners out my club. They don’t represent the fans and they’re ruining the club. OUR CLUB. #TheBoardOut

A young, promising English manager, you should be doing everything you can to keep him. Long term interests for what? He’s the best manager we’ve had in a long time. Finally some stability and now this. I for one will not be attending and BCFC matches until you lot are gone.

Even rival supporters were stunned by Monk’s exit and saw his sacking as a poor decision:
Shocking…best manager you’ve had in years, board deserve all the abuse coming their way
