QPR in negotiations with 36-year-old defender

QPR are in talks with Angel Rangel over a new contract.

The London side remain in negotiations with the veteran right-back, according to journalist Sean Gallagher on Twitter.

The 36-year-old spent last season at Loftus Road and made 20 appearances for the Hoops, chipping in with two goals and two assists.

QPR have been busy so far in the transfer window and have snapped up ‘keeper Liam Kelly from Livingston and defender Lee Wallace from Rangers. They are also set to sign Brentford defender Yoann Barbet on a three-year deal, as reported by The72 earlier today.

The potential contract renewal of Rangel would be a shrewd move by Mark Warburton as he will add more experience and options to his defensive department.

Rangel left Swansea City at the end of the 2017/18 season after their relegation from the Premier League prior to his move to QPR. He had been with the Swans since 2007 and had played for them for 11 years, racking up a total of 374 appearances.

Prior to moving to the UK, Rangel had spells at Girona, Sant Andreu and Terrassa. It was Roberto Martinez who signed him for Swansea and he turned out to be an inspired signing as the Spanish right-back became a fans’ favourite at the Liberty Stadium. He helped them win the League One title in 2008, the Championship Play-Offs in 2011 and the League Cup in 2013.

His experience would come in handy once again for QPR next season.
