Leeds United striker on the move again

According to Phil Hay, writing in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United striker Jay-Roy Grot could be looking at another loan move away from the club next season.

Grot was signed by the Whites in late August 2017 from Dutch top-flight side NEC Nijmegen for a few of £1.4 million. Initial signs looked promising, Grot cutting an athletic hulk of a figure and possessing an Adonis-like physique.

Much was expected of the youngster, but expectations are often a deceptive beast and things didn’t quite turn out as Leeds fans would have wanted. Grot didn’t cut the mustard in the eyes of Leeds United fans, who quickly began to question whether this was another wasted Orta transfer deal.

His time at Elland Road amounted to 23 appearances in all competitions for the Whites where he contributed just one goal and one assist. That goal came in a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday late in a season where Leeds United finished 13th.

Hay says that whilst Leeds haven’t deemed Grot “surplus to requirements” there is interest from Vitesse Arnhem and Hearts with both willing to take the 21-year-old on another season-long loan deal away from Elland Road.

Last season Grot spent his time away from Elland Road at Eredivisie side VVV Venlo. During his time back on his native Holland, the youngster featured in 33 games for Venlo, scoring six goals and adding three assists. That was enough to convince some Leeds fans that maybe Bielsa could mould Grot into a handy frontman.

The future will tell what is in store for Jay-Roy Grot but with loan interest hanging over him, that initial future could very well be away from Elland Road.
