According to reports from ‘Wigan Today’, midfielder Nick Powell is expected to sign for Stoke City this week.

The 25-year-old’s contract runs out this summer, with Wigan doing all they can to try and persuade him to stay, but this is looking unlikely.

There has reportedly been interest from Celtic, but it is the Potters who are set to secure his signature.

As much as Paul Cook would have liked to have kept Powell at the DW Stadium, the wages that a club like Stoke can offer him make it a very difficult task.

Powell started off his career with Crewe before signing for Manchester United in a deal worth up to £6 million and scoring on his Premier League debut.

He only ended up playing a few games for United and eventually signed for Wigan in 2016 after a successful loan spell a few years prior, scoring seven goals in over 30 appearances.

In the 2018/19 campaign, Powell scored eight goals and got seven assists in the Championship, making it no surprise that the likes of Stoke are interested in him.

With the likelihood being that they will lose one of their better players, Paul Cook will be looking to bring in a few players this summer to increase the quality of his Wigan side, who finished 18th in the last campaign.

There has been interest from several clubs for Powell since the end of the season but it seems like, despite the best efforts of The Latics to keep him, he will be making his decision and joining Stoke this week.
