Aston Villa had £6 million January bid for Premier League starlet rejected

According to the Liverpool Echo, Aston Villa had an offer of £6 million for young midfielder Kieran Dowell rejected by Premier League side Everton.

Before Everton midfielder Kieran Dowell made the move to Bramall Lane to join Sheffield United on loan for the remainder of the 2018/19 Championship season, Aston Villa reportedly had a bid of £6 million turned down by the Toffees.

Dowell went on to have a strong spell at Bramall Lane, helping Chris Wilder’s side to a second place finish, winning promotion to the Premier League in the process. The young English midfielder played 16 games for the club in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist along the way.

Villa, however, didn’t struggle over the second half of the season despite missing out on Dowell. Their incredible run of form led by the likes of Tammy Abraham and Jack Grealish – who probably would’ve been keeping Dowell out of the team – helped fire Dean Smith’s side to the Championship play-offs, where they eventually saw off Derby County after beating West Brom in the semi-finals.

After another successful loan spell in the Championship, Everton may be looking to send Dowell out on loan to a Premier League club for the 2019/20 season. So, Villa could look to rekindle their interest in the England youngster once again.

However, Sheffield United are also keen to bring Dowell in for next season, and given that he has already enjoyed a successful spell with the Blades, they will surely be in pole position to land him again this summer.
