Reading in pole position to land Premier League midfielder

Reading are in pole position to land Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria on loan again.

The 21-year-old spent the second-half of last season at the Madejski Stadium and is set to return this summer, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

Ejaria played 16 times for Joe Gomes’ side, scoring once to help them retain their Championship status.

The London-born midfielder started his career at Arsenal and rose through the youth ranks at the Emirates Stadium. However, he made the switch to their Premier League rivals Liverpool in 2014.

Ejaria made his first-team debut for the Reds in September 2016 in a League Cup tie against Derby County. He has since made seven more appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side and has also represented England at both Under-20 and Under-21 level.

He got his first taste of regular senior action on loan at Sunderland in 2017/18 but couldn’t prevent them from relegation to League One.

Ejaria spent the first half of last season in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers. He made 28 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side but returned to Liverpool in January.

He seems to have found his feet at Reading and a move back there would suit both him and his parent club. It will be interesting to see how the Royals get on in the next campaign with a full season under Gomes. Can they compete at the top or will it be another struggle?
