Brentford “in great demand” star being looked at by La Liga

For all sides, having a striker who weighs in with the goals is a bonus, and Brentford fans can definitely say that with regards to Neal Maupay. However, in the face of this report from French media giant L’Equipe just how long that will last is open to interpretation.

L’Equipe say that Maupay’s agent is in Spain and set to meet representatives of La Liga side Sevilla. This meeting with the Andalusian side goes alongside growing interest in England for the prolific former Nice and Saint-Etienne frontman.

Maupay moved to Brentford from Saint-Etienne for a fee of £1.8m in mid-July 2017 and has featured in two Sky Bet Championship campaigns for the London side. In totla, the 22-year-old has played 95 games for the Bees, scoring 41 goals and providing 14 assists.

There is a saying that you are only as good as your last season, and in that case it must be argued that Maupay is very good indeed. Last time out, the French hitman struck 25 goals in 43 Championship appearances, as well adding eight assists. He also added three goals and an assist in four FA Cup games.

With goals coming at a premium, there is obviously going to be eyes looking Brentford’s way and this seems clearly to be the case. L’Equipe say that bidding for Maupay “should not start at less that €10m/£8.9m, but that would seem to be a conservative estimate based on what he is capapble of. One team that will be happy will be Saint-Etienne, who hold a sell-on clause of 25%.
