Leeds United could be quids in with Danny Rose news

Leeds United have a very productive youth system, evidence of that can be seen stretching back beyond the exciting crop of youngsters breaking through at Thorp Arch and Elland Road at the moment.

Players such as Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton became bona fide first-team players last season, and Kalvin Phillips continued his rise in prominence at the West Yorkshire club. Stepping back a little further and you have the likes of Lewis Cook and Charlie Taylor; a little further still and James Milner and Fabian Delph come into view.

Part of that older generation of youngsters done good and moved on is Danny Rose. Rose left Elland Road and Leeds United from their Under-18 set-up near the end of July 2007, nearly 12 years ago. He didn’t feature for Leeds United’s first team like those mentioned above, but his promise and potential saw Spurs stump up a near £1m fee to land him as a 16-year-old.

Since then the 28-year-old Doncaster-born left-back has gone on to more than make a breakthrough with the North London club and is nearing a double century of appearances. To press, he has 198 appearances under his belt, appearances that have brought 10 goals and 27 assists.

News from Alan Nixon (below) could bring more than a little good news to his former club Leeds United.

Rose featured in 26 Premier League games for Spurs last season (four assists) as well as eight Champions League games in their run to an all-English final, and defeat, against Liverpool. However, with many feeling that he will become a victim of Tottenham’s policy of moving on older players there is a distinct likelihood that he’ll find himself out of the door and on the market.

Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester United, as well as European giants Paris Saint-Germain are said to be intersted in the cultured left-back who, at only 28, still has much to offer on the football front.

Leeds United will benefit from any sale as it is believed that the Whites hold a 10% sell-on agreement on their former youngster. Last year it was said that Spurs valued Rose in the £50m bracket – a sizeable valuation by anyone’s estimate. Yes, it is a valuation that has likely dropped some, but it would still mean a healthy amount would be coming the Whites way.
