Aston Villa eyeing up loan move for Premier League centre-back

A report from The Guardian (via Sports Mole) has claimed that Aston Villa are eyeing up a move to sign Chelsea centre-back Ethan Ampadu on loan for the 2019/20 Premier League season.

Aston Villa are looking to get their summer transfer business done early on in the window as they prepare for life in the Premier League. They have already completed deals to sign Anwar El-Ghazi, Jota and Wesley, but they are far from done.

A number of players including the likes of Jack Butland and Tyrone Mings have been linked with moves to Villa Park this summer, and now it has emerged that Chelsea’s young defender Ethan Ampadu is on the list of transfer targets.

Villa were linked with a loan move for Ampadu ahead of the January transfer window, with first-team opportunities coming few and far between for the Welsh starlet. However, a move failed to materialise. Now, the Villans are reportedly set to revisit their interest in the 18-year-old.

Ampadu struggled to make an impact on the club’s first-team over the course of the 2018/19 season, appearing scarcely under the management of Maurizio Sarri. He played just five times for the senior team, making no appearances in the Premier League. Ampadu played seven games for the club’s Under-23s side in the Premier League 2 as well.

While Ampadu hasn’t made his dent on Premier League football as of yet, he certainly holds the ability to enjoy a successful career in the top-flight. Ampadu can play in either centre-back or defensive midfield, showing impressive passing ability and maturity to his game.
