Charlton Athletic are close to admitting defeat in their attempts to tie Patrick Baeur down on a new contract.
The German defender is out-of-contract at the end of the month and is a target for Blackburn Rovers, as per a report by the Lancashire Telegraph.
Baeur scored a last-gasp winner for the Addicks in their Play-Off final against Sunderland at Wembley last month to send Lee Bowyer’s side into the Championship.
Blackburn have been long-term admirers of him and were linked with him last summer. Tony Mowbray’s side leaked goals last season and are in the hunt for some defensive reinforcements over the coming months.
Bauer moved to England in 2015 to join Charlton from Portuguese side Maritimo. He couldn’t prevent the Addicks from relegation to League One in his first season at the club but he has been a key player for them for the past three seasons in the third tier.
Bauer started his career in Germany with Stuttgart but never made a senior appearance for them. Instead, he was a regular for their reserve team in the 3. Liga before he left them to move to Maritimo. Again Bauer played for their reserve team before breaking into their first-team in 2013
He has made some impact in the Football League for Charlton in his four seasons there but looks set to move on now for a new chapter in his career.
