Leeds United and Millwall £2.5m target hopes drifting in face of new Premier League interest

According to the Daily Mirror, as per an article by HITC, Millwall have increased their bid for Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe to £2.5m. That bid overarches what Portsmouth had set as a benchmark figure ahead of interest from a number of Championship sides.

Portsmouth were said to be ready to stand firm over the valuation of their star player, a valuation that has now been met with Millwall’s bid. Leeds United were also a club linked with Lowe, and in fairness £2.5m would be in their ballpark despite fans being told that they are to expect a ‘difficult’ transfer window to be run by the club.

However, that £2.5m isn’t going to be their biggest threat to the Whites interest, or that of Millwall, as the Mirror are reporting that Premier League side Burnley are also interest in Lowe. The Clarets will be looking to add more flair and threat to their flanks and brining in the Portsmouth flyer would do just that.

Across last season, the London-born flyer featured in 55 games for Pompey, scoring 17 goals and adding nine assists in all competitions. He signed from non-League side Hampton & Richmond in mid-January 2017 and has palyed in 119 games for the south coast side. In those games he’s returned a total of 29 goals and 18 assists; this emphasising just how impressive last season was.

That kind of output, those goals and assists, are always going to bring more than a degree of interest. For Portsmouth, they might look to cash in on a player whose current deal runs out next June, and £2.5m is a fair amount to receive for a player entering the last year of his current deal.

However, for sides like Millwall and Leeds United the threat of a Premier League club circling, waiting, is ominous and poses a threat for whatever hopes they may harbour of landing Jamal Lowe.
