Reports in the “national press” (via the Lancashire Telegraph) have claimed that West Brom’s out of contract midfielder James Morrison is attracting interest from Championship sides Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City and Reading.
Midfielder James Morrison will be leaving West Brom this summer with his contract at The Hawthorns set to expire this summer, and a number of Championship sides are interested. Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City and Reading are all keen on a move for the midfielder, it has been reported.
The Lancashire Telegraph says that Mowbray is keen to bring some experienced heads to Ewood Park this summer. Stewart Downing is also on the radar of Blackburn Rovers this summer, with talks being held between the club and the 34-year-old winger.
Morrison has amassed plenty experience over the course of this long playing career. He has played for only two clubs in his 15 years as a professional player. He came through the youth academy at Middlesbrough, spending nine years with the club as a youth player and a senior player.
In 2007, Morrison made the move to West Brom when Tony Mowbray was in charge of the Baggies and has been a mainstay in the West Brom side for a long time now. The 33-year-old has played 341 times for West Brom, scoring 39 goals and providing 37 assists along the way. But last season, Morrison played only 19 times for the club last season, playing more of a rotation role for West Brom.
Now, Morrison will be looking for a new club as he enters the latter stages of his career. Could he look to reunite with Mowbray at Blackburn? Or will he opt to make a move to Bristol City or Reading instead?
