Leeds United set to loan out defender for more first-team experience

Leeds United are expected to loan out defender Aapo Halme this summer.

The Whites want the 21-year-old to gain some first-team experience, as per a report by Football Insider.

Halme, who is 6ft 5inc, made five appearances for Leeds in all competitions this past season. His contract at Elland Road expires in 2022.

It is believed that Marcelo Bielsa wants him to go out on loan to another English club and thinks he still has a future with the Yorkshire side.

Halme, who is a Finland Under-21 international, joined Leeds in January 2018 from HJK Helsinki on a four-year deal. He made his debut for the Whites in November 2018 in a Championship game against Bristol City.

Prior to his move to England, Halme started his career at FC Honka and rose up through the youth ranks there before he was snapped up by Klubi 04. He spent a year there before joining HJK Helsinki.

Halme became a key player for Helsinki and made 29 appearances for them as a youngster before joining Leeds.

His time at Elland Road has been affected by injury so going out on loan for next season would help Halme get some regular first-team minutes under his belt.

It could be one in and one out for Leeds as they are closing in on the signing of centre-back Ben White from Brighton and Hove Albion, as reported by The72 earlier today.
