Rangers have signed former Birmingham City striker

Rangers have signed former Birmingham City striker Greg Stewart on a two-year-deal, confirmed by the club website.

Scottish Premiership side Rangers have signed former Birmingham City striker Greg Stewart on a two-year-deal, following his contract expiring at St Andrew’s.

The 29-year-old has become Steven Gerrard’s fourth signing this summer, following Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Steven Davis.

According to Daily Record, Rangers released a statement stating: “This will be a return of sorts for the Stirling-born player as he began his footballing career in the Rangers Academy.”

Greg Stewart spent half of last season on loan at fellow Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen on loan from Birmingham City, but spent the first half on loan at Kilmarnock were he scored eight goals in sixteen appearances.

Greg Stewart impressed on his loan spell at Aberdeen and Derek McInnes was trying to sign him on a permanent deal since January as he told BBC Sport a while ago: “If there was a chance to keep Greg then I would be doing my best to keep him.”

“We felt in January, speaking to him and his agent, that they wanted to look at options.”

Derek McInnes believes the quality of his performances for Aberdeen explain why other clubs were eyeing up a move for him.

“It’s no surprise his agent has been speaking to clubs, there’s a lot of clubs that would recognise Greg’s talent”

“When you saw him come on the other night [against Motherwell]he helped game go our way with his quality.”
