Bradford City have unveiled highly-rated defender Jackson Longridge as their latest signing on their official website

The 24-year-old, who operates at left-back, has been handed a two-year deal at the Northern Commercials Stadium after arriving from Scottish Championship side Dunfermline Athletic.

His burgeoning reputation as an adventurous full-back caught the attention of Bantams boss Gary Bowyer, who has secured the services of the former Livingston man and admitted that City beat other sides to his signature:

“We are delighted to bring Jacko here. He attracted a lot of interest – both in Scotland and England.

“At 24 years old he has a lot of experience. He is a modern-day full-back, who loves to get forward.

“When meeting him and speaking to people who have worked with him and played against him, it was clear he is focused on making the most of this opportunity.

“He has the potential to really kick on and I am excited to be working with him.”

Bowyer has been tasked with rejuvenating Bradford City and lifting the club out of a period of stagnation, which culminated in relegation to League Two last season. The former Blackburn Rovers boss clearly sees wholesale squad changes as key to the rejuvenation process, having released eleven players last month.

His capture of Longridge comes two days after the Bantams secured the services of former Wolves winger Zeli Ismail, who spent the 2018/19 campaign with Walsall.

As the new-look squad begins to take shape, City supporters can begin looking forward to seeing the arrivals in action when pre-season friendlies get underway. The Bantams’ schedule includes trips to non-league outfits Guiseley, Brighouse Town and Bradford (Park Avenue), as well as a mouthwatering clash with European champions Liverpool in aid of the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.

The club’s latest addition expressed his excitement after putting pen to paper on his first contract in English football:

“As soon as I heard about the interest from the club it was a no-brainer for me. I could not wait to come down and get signed – I am really pleased. I am looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and seeing how the recruitment goes from here.

“This is a very strong club and we need to get it back to where it belongs. I am excited to see the supporters and, hopefully, we can do them proud. After speaking with the manager, he has made it clear I am the kind of player he is looking for.

“He has given me a chance I am very grateful for. It is up to me now to prove him right.”
