Garry Monk set to stay at Birmingham City

Garry Monk has no intention of leaving Birmingham after reports emerged suggesting that he could leave the club after falling out with chief executive Xuandong Ren.

That’s according to TalkSPORT’s Midlands reporter Tom Ross, who sent a tweet out insisting that Monk wants to remain at Blues.

Despite nothing coming from club or Garry Monk It is my understanding that Garry Monk has no intention of leaving/quitting and is busy planning for next season as normal.”

Although, Ross did also add that the hierarchy could still sack Monk but that does seem unlikely given his reputation.

The former Leeds boss has done a superb job since he came to St. Andrew’s, initially saving the club from relegation before they had an outside chance of reaching the play-offs until they were hit with a points deduction last season.

Monk was appointed Swansea manager in February 2014, when he replaced Michael Laudrup. He kept Swansea up, then led them to eighth the following season, but he was sacked in December 2015 following a run of just one win in 11 league matches.

In July 2016 he was appointed head coach at Leeds on a rolling one-year contract, steering them to seventh in the Championship, before resigning in May 2017, two days after new owner Andrea Radrizzani’s takeover.

He then took over at relegated Middlesbrough but was sacked two days before Christmasfollowing a victory over Sheffield Wednesday which left Boro ninth, within three points of the play-off places.

Opinion:

Understandably, Birmingham fans are panicking as Monk has done a marvellous job on a shoestring budget at St. Andrews.

They need to do all they can to keep hold of him as he will have them challenging for play-offs next season. It would be a ridiculous move to see him leave at this stage of the summer.
