Aston Villa set to complete shock £22 million deal to sign Brazilian striker

HLN Sport journalist Kristof Terreur has claimed that Aston Villa have agreed on a deal to sign Club Brugge striker Wesley Moraes in a £22 million deal.

Journalist Kristof Terreur reported on Thursday afternoon that Aston Villa have agreed to buy Club Brugge striker Wesley Moraes in a big money deal, believed to be around £22 million. He tweeted the news, comparing Brazilian striker Wesley to Christian Benteke – who also joined from the Belgian Jupiler League seven years ago.

Terreur also posted a link to a story from HLN Sport, reiterating that the striker will join Villa in a record sale for Club Brugge. £22 million is the fee being reported and he will put pen to paper of a five-year deal at Villa Park. German side Bayer Leverkusen and Italian side A outfit Lazio were also credited with interest in Wesley.

Newcastle United have also been linked with a move for the 22-year-old but amid the madness regarding their own situation and the contract of Rafael Benitez, they have missed out on a reported striker target.

Wesley Moraes enjoyed a thoroughly successful season in the Belgian top flight with Club Brugge, scoring 17 goals and providing 10 assists. He has played in the Champions League as well, scoring twice against Monaco across two legs in 2018.

Standing at 191cm tall, Moraes is a physically imposing striker but is more than capable with the ball at his feet. Should he make the move to Villa Park, he will fill the place left by loan star Tammy Abraham, who is highly unlikely to be returning to Aston Villa this summer.

The signing of Wesley Moraes is a big statement signing from Villa so early in the transfer window, as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to the P[remier League.
