Ex-Hull City and Brighton defender turns down Middlesbrough approach

Liam Rosenior has turned down an approach to join Middlesbrough’s coaching staff.

The Championship side wanted the 34-year-old to work under Jonathan Woodgate, as per a report by the Northern Echo.

Rosenior, who is gaining a reputation as a pundit for Sky Sports, is currently the Under-23’s manager at Brighton and will be remaining in that role.

The former England Under-21 international retired from playing in July last year and has signalled his intentions of getting into management in the future.

Rosenior played over 400 games in his career and started out at Bristol City before moving to Fulham in 2003. He made 93 appearances for the London side in the Premier League prior to his move to Reading in 2007.

The former full-back moved onto Hull City in 2010 on a free transfer and became a key player for the Tigers. He helped them gain promotion to the top flight in 2013 and get to the FA Cup final a year later. His name has been mentioned in regards to their current managerial vacancy.

However, Rosenior left the KCOM Stadium after five years to join Brighton, where he played 51 times and was part of their 2016 promotion side.

It appears likely Rosenior will go into management, like his father Leroy did, but will continue his punditry and work at Brighton for the time being as opposed to joining the coaching staff at Middlesbrough.
