What does the future hold for these Leeds United Players?

Leeds United have many players on the fringes, seemingly not in Marcelo Bielsa’s plans. so who are they and what do I think Leeds should do with them?

The 2018/19 season ended with Leeds United falling just short of promotion back to the promised land, but there were players who were used the season before who didn’t get a look in this time around, what should Leeds do with these players?

Here I take a look at the players in question and give my opinion on what their future could be.

1. Jay-Roy Grot:

In my opinion Grot has to be given an opportunity to work with Bielsa, he has devastating physical attributes that could cause chaos in England should they be used properly, let’s see if that opportunity arises this pre-season.

2. Pawel Cibicki:

Given the minimal opportunities Cibicki received under Christiansen and Heckingbottom, its difficult to come to a true conclusion on what he may offer, however, he has had some opportunity and hasn’t exactly lit the world on fireMaybe pastures new would be the best for both parties here.

3. Caleb Ekuban:

Ekuban had a decent start with Leeds, looking very sharp and Looked capable of bagging bagging a goal or two. A a couple of injuries, and a drop in form, took him out of the reckoning and Leeds strengthened in his position the following season, forcing the likeable Ekuban out on loan to Turkey. This is probably where his immediate future lies as interest from Trabzonspor, the team he has been on loan at, in a permanent deal.

4. Vernon Anita:

The former Newcastle man was played out of position in his first term at Leeds and didn’t really convince when on the field. With great strength in the areas he plays, I think he will leave this summer.

5. Laurens De Bock:

From what I saw from the Belgian International Left Back, he doesn’t have the minerals to compete with quality Leeds already possess in that area. However, having signed a four and a half year deal when he joined last year, he may prove difficult to ship out.

6. Hadi Sacko:

Blessed with killer pace, I think Sacko’s future will also lay away from Elland Road. With Bielsa already looking to bring in three wingers this summer, along with the undoubted quality that lies in Jack Clarke and Pablo Hernandez, I feel opportunities would be somewhat limited for Sacko.

Honourable mentions go out to Eunan O’Kane, Yosuke Ideguchi and Conor Shaughnessy who I also feel will not fit into Bielsa’s plans going forwards, not least for the quality that Leeds now possess, but also because of Leeds’ style of play evolving since their last involvement.

Regarding the young guys out on loan, I believe all of the following have earned the opportunity to try and work their way into Bielsa’s reckoning:

Tom Pearce, Mallik Wilkes, Lewis Coyle and Paudie O’Connor.

These are obviously just my humble opinion, but I’m interested to learn what other Leeds United fans think.
