Aston Villa and Wolves targeting Brentford defender

Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers are both interested in Brentford’s Yoann Barbet according to a report from Turkish media outlet Asist Analiz.

The Brentford defender is a summer target for a number of clubs but the Midlands sides are believed to be the front runners for the Championship star.

European side Besiktas are also thought to be in the running as there seems a battle for the signature of the 26-year-old centre back.

Barbet has been with the Bees for the last four seasons but he is out of contract this summer and is free to sign for another club.

The French international has a steely and robust nature which stands him in good stead for a crack in the top flight whether it be with the newly promoted side or with Wolves for the heights of European football.

He is accustomed to the style of play in England having been used to playing English football for a number of years but for Villa or Wolves to really kick on next season perhaps they should be looking at a more highly experienced player than Barbet.

With Wolves looking to increase their squad size for next season and the test of the Europa League and with Aston Villa’s on loan defender Tuanzebe returning to Manchester United, its no secret that both clubs would welcome another centre back.

Huddersfield Town are also said to be monitoring Barbet so it will not be easy to obtain the services of the defender but he would certainly provide quality experience at the heart of defence.

Barbet played 37 times for Brentford last season and is just the sort of reliable, strong central defender these sides will need.
