Leeds United and Derby interest dampened by huge player valuation

According to the Bristol Live website, Bristol City’s valuation of star midfielder Josh Brownhill is likely to be scary enough to ward off interest from all potential suitors.

Their stance, is reflected in the £15million valuation that the Robins have put on his head. The website article says that Brownhill, who they say was “a driving force in the Robins midfield“, is being valued by the BS3 club in the same ballpark as Preston North End’s Ben Pearson.

The Lilywhites have placed a £15million-plus valuation on Pearson’s head and Bristol Live add that “City’s asking price for Brownhill would be a similar figure, if not more.” A figure of that magnitude would, of course, be more than enough to scare away most, if not all, potential suitors for Brownhill who came up through Preston’s youth system

In last season’s Sky Bet Championship campaign, the Ashton Gate midfielder featured in a near ever-present 45 games, games which returned five goals and four assists for the Warrington-born 23-year-old.

Bristol City have no need to sell, of course, as their funds have been bolstered by the £15million-plus they have received for Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth and Peterborough respectively.

At the £15million-plus asking price for Brownhill, City may not find too many takers. Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has already warned fans to expect a ‘difficult’ transfer window this summer, so paying out the money Bristol City are asking does not even begin to fit with that strategy.

Derby County are also a club thought to be sailing close to the wind of the FFP regulations, and would likely not sanction an outlay the magnitude of what the Robins are asking for regarding Brownlow.

Others are said, by Bristol Live, to be ‘interested’ in the midfielder’s services – Brighton and Hove Albion and Sheffield United being specifically named. Yet, despite being backed by Premier League mega-money, that duo will probably feel that they can find better value elsewhere rather than in Brownhill.
