According to French source Le 10 Sport, Aston Villa have put in a €10million/£8.9milion bid for Brentford midfielder Said Benrahma in a bid to add more threat to their midfield ahead of next season’s Premier League campaign.

Villa’s promotion to English football’s top-tier came largely on the back of loanee Tammy Abraham’s 25 Sky Bet Championship goals. That source is likely closed off next season with Chelsea keeping players at the club in the face of a two-window transfer ban.

Benrahma lit up the Sky Bet Championship last season, to such a degree that he made the division’s Team of the Season line-up. Across 38 games, the talented Algerian who Le 10 Sport label a “phenomenon” scored 10 goals and added 15 goals.

A further goal and two assists came via the three Carabao Cup games to round off an excellent first season in English football for the £1.5million buy from Ligue1 side Nice.

That output might be his only contribution for Brentford if Aston Villa have their way with the near-£9million bid they’ve tabled. Le 10 Sport say that he has been “courted by several teams” in the Premier League, but it is Aston Villa who have entered the big offer.

Le 10 Sport go on to say that “it is quite possible that other clubs” will enter the fray “in the coming days”, this signifying that those circling see the two-cap Algerian as a viable prospect who could hack it in the Premier League.
