The latest on Lee Bowyer’s contract talks as rivals prepare to pounce

Lee Bowyer has held further contract talks with Charlton this week as speculation around his future continues to intensify.

According to the South London Press, Bowyer held talks with the club on Thursday as other second tier sides are adding him to their wish lists. Both Johnnie Jackson and Andy Marshall along with Bowyer are all out of contract on June 30th.

The Charlton boss has been away on a family holiday and returned to contract talks with the club on Thursday with other clubs showing interest. West Brom are rumoured to be interested in Bowyer’s services.  The Midlands club sacked Darren Moore in March with James Shan taking the reigns for the remainder of the season and the play-offs.

West Brom are not the only side interested. Derby County have also shown interest. It is not yet known the future of Frank Lampard who is being linked with the Chelsea job should Maurizio Sarri leave the club this summer which is now looking likely.

The manager’s situation needs to be sorted quickly as Charlton currently have just 11 contracted players ahead of their first season back in the Championship after a three year stint in League One. Despite all the uncertainty surrounding his future, it is understood that Bowyer is still planning ahead for the 2019/20 season with the Addicks, trying to secure deals to bring players in.

Lieven De Turck is leading the talks with Bowyer but is restricted to what want a way owner Roland Duchatelet will give. The club has been up for sale for a significant length of time but still without an outcome.

This is not the first time that Bowyer’s future has been unclear. It took until September 2018 for the club to confirm him as permanent first team manager. He had been in caretaker charge since March of that year.
