Coventry City agree groundshare with Championship club

Coventry City will now be playing their home games at St Andrews according to their official website.

It is believed that the League One outfit have agreed a ground-share with the Championship club and will now play at St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium next season.

The EFL have been informed of their decision at the league’s annual conference where it is now being discussed.

An official announcement is expected later today where the Sky Blues will be playing outside of Coventry for the second time in recent years having also played at Northampton’s ground.

Whilst that exile lasted for 13 months, they are also hoping that this current situation should also see them return to their home stadium in a year’s time.

Coventry’s fans are believed to be outraged as they could now face a 40 mile round trip for their home games however this should help Birmingham City in their efforts to comply with the EFL’s Profitability & Sustainability regulations for the three year period up to the end of June 2019.

Exact figures of the deal have not yet been disclosed. The club has delayed any stadium announcement in the hope that a deal could be agreed with Wasps to play at the Ricoh Arena. The deadline has passed and unfortunately there has been no agreement.

Coventry have released a statement saying: “We are incredibly disappointed and extremely frustrated that continuing differences between our owners SISU and Wasps, and also Coventry City Council, could not be set aside to allow for a deal to play the Club’s home games at the Ricoh Arena.”

“The Ricoh Arena is the stadium built to be the football Club’s home, and our fans should be able to watch their team play in the City that we are proud to represent.”

Coventry have, however, thanked Birmingham City for their continued support regarding the situation. More details will be released in due course.
