QPR keen on Welsh international midfielder

Queens Park Rangers are keen on Welsh international Jonny Williams according to The Mail.

Williams’ short term contract at League One Play Off Winners Charlton has now expired having joined them from Crystal Palace before helping the Addicks win promotion.

It is reported that Swansea City and Preston are also interested in the midfielder.

The 25 year old is said to be in demand from a number of clubs now he’s about to become a free agent. He performed admirably for the newly promoted Championship side but they have accepted that they are unable to compete with the other clubs looking to secure his services.

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer has almost conceded defeat in their chances of signing Williams: “We don’t think we will be able to afford him, that’s the truth of it. If he said: ‘Yeah, I’ll come on that budget, then we’d probably take him’ But there is going to be clubs out there who are going to offer him a lot more than we can offer him, so he has to weigh up his options.”

“His agent is going to keep us informed on what is going on – the door ain’t closed for him – but we probably need a bit of luck and hope no-one offers him too much!” Bowyer joked.

It is also thought that being in Wales would suit Williams with him being able to return to home.

Although it looks like it will take an almighty amount of luck for Charlton to keep hold of Williams he would certainly be a great acquisition especially with him having got to know the club in his time there. With the London club looking to do everything they can to stay in the Championship next season a signing of this calibre could be just what they are looking for.
