The Daily Mail has reported that Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have lodged a bid for Motherwell’s young midfield star David Turnbull, who is on the radar of Derby County and Bristol City.
Motherwell’s 19-year-old midfield star David Turnbull is attracting significant transfer interest this summer after a strong season for Stephen Robinson’s side, and Championship pair Derby County and Bristol City are reportedly among those interested.
Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion are also looking at Turnbull, along with newly relegated side Cardiff City. But, it is Scottish champions Celtic who have made the first move, lodging a £1.2 million bid.
However, their approach is set to be knocked back by Motherwell. Well are keen to make Turnbull their record sale if they have to sell him this summer, so any buying club will have to conjure up near £2 million if they want to bring the Scottish youth international to their club this summer.
Turnbull made his senior debut for Motherwell last season, but it is this season where he has cemented his place in the starting 11 under the management of Stephen Robinson. The youngster has played 34 times in all competitions, scoring an impressive 16 goals and providing seven assists from the middle of the park – including six goals in his last five games.
Turnbull’s goal-scoring exploits from midfield could be compared to that of Derby County boss Frank Lampard, who is in the market for fresh faces ahead of another season in the top flight. A move to Bristol City could also be a good one for Turnbull, with Lee Johnson’s side known for bringing young players through their ranks.
