Norwich City turn to West Brom loan star after Sheffield Wednesday’s £7 million valuation of Rhodes

A report from the Daily Mail (via The Pink Un) has said that newly promoted Norwich City could turn to West Brom loan hero Dwight Gayle in their pursuit of a new striker after Sheffield Wednesday slapped a £7 million price tag on Jordan Rhodes.

It was reported here on The72 last week that Norwich City were interested in a return deal for loan man Jordan Rhodes this summer. But, after parent club Sheffield Wednesday slapped a £7 million price tag on the Scotsman’s head, it has been claimed that they could move for Dwight Gayle instead.

While Rhodes had a fairly average loan spell at Carrow Road this season, Dwight Gayle played a crucial role in firing West Brom to the Championship play-offs at the Hawthorns. The 28-year-old netted 24 goals across all competitions, providing eight assists along the way, forming a strong attacking partnership with Jay Rodriguez – and Harvey Barnes during the first half of the season.

Now, as ever, speculation is circulating regarding Gayle’s future at parent club Newcastle United. West Brom looked at bringing Gayle back before opting against it due to financial reasons. He has fallen down the pecking order at St James’ Park since they won promotion back to the Premier league in 2017.

Gayle has played for Dagenham and Redbridge, Peterborough United, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and West Brom over the course of his career. He has played 296 career games, scoring 98 goals along the way and is a proven goalscorer. The striker would provide strong competition for Teemu Pukki at Carrow Road if he were to make the move.
