Morecambe sign ex-Preston North End forward

Morecambe have signed forward Michael Howard following his release by Preston North End, on a one-year-deal.

The 19-year-old has joined the Shrimps on a one-year deal – with the option of another 12 months – after being released by Preston North End at the end of last season.

Bentley said: “Mike is a young forward who has got good potential. He’s a pacy player and can play wide or down the middle.

“He’s got a good pedigree coming through the ranks at PNE and has had a couple of successful loan moves already”.

“We’re looking forward to working with him and helping him develop.”

Howard has previously had spells with Cork City, Stalybridge Celtic and Hednesford Town.

The Southport-born 19-year-old joined the Lillywhites as an 11-year-old and progressed through the academy, but did not make a full senior appearance.

It will be interesting  to see if he has an impact in   Sky Bet League Two. It is fair to say that he didn’t have much success in his loan spells but at such a young age he could really develop under the guidance of Jim Bentley.

Morecambe finished the season just above the relegation zone as Jim Bentley continues to do a brilliant job with the Shrimps.

However, Bentley blasted some Morecambe fans as he said “I’m disappointed at some of the shouts I received from around me,” Bentley said afterwards.

“I try my absolute all for the club, I’ve done it from day one and I don’t think we get the respect we deserve.
