Nottingham Forest and Hull City hoping to beat Crystal Palace to signing of Dundee United goalkeeper

Nottingham Forest and Hull City are hoping to beat Crystal Palace to the signature of Dundee United’s Benjamin Siegrist according to a report from Page 47 of the 28th May print edition of the Daily Record.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper, who has previously been contracted to Swiss side Vaduz and Aston Villa, has been at Dundee United since signing for them in 2018. He made 21 league appearances for them this season as they got incredibly close to getting promoted to the Scottish Premier League. However, their attempt to get promoted ended in heartbreak after losing to St. Mirren on penalties in their play-off match.

With Siegrist being a great performer for United this season, the club are worried that they will lose him this summer after failing to get promotion. He only has 12 months left on his contract so any interested party will think they can get a bargain. That includes two teams in the Sky Bet Championship with both Nottingham Forest and Hull City being very interested in signing him this summer. Forest head coach Martin O’Neill knows Siegrist well having worked together when they were both at Aston Villa.

Dundee United are doing what they can to keep Siegrist by offering him a new deal but he might be tempted by the teams interested in him, especially Premier League side Crystal Palace who surely have the advantage in this race. But with O’Neill having known Siegrist before and Hull likely to be able to offer more first-team football, he could instead be heading to the Championship.
