Swansea City in discussions over free transfer deal for sought after Plymouth Argyle star

A report from Football Insider has claimed that Championship side Swansea City have entered talks with Plymouth Argyle playmaker Ruben Lameiras, who is out of contract in the next month.

Plymouth Argyle playmaker Ruben Lameiras is available on a free transfer and clubs are lurking with a potential bargain deal available. Now, it has been reported that Championship outfit Swansea City have entered talks with the 24-year-old.

Lameiras is out of contract next month and seems likely to depart Home Park this summer after they suffered relegation to League Two. He has impressed in his time with Plymouth Argyle since joining from Coventry City, providing 18 goals and 19 assists in his two seasons with the club.

He was one of few strong performers in the Plymouth side last season but a step down to League Two is likely to be a step too far for Lameiras’ liking.

French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux have been credited with interest in the playmaker this summer. Bordeaux have already delved into League One to sign players recently, signing striker Josh Maja from Sunderland in the January transfer window.

The report from Football Insider adds that he appeals to Swansea’s attacking, passing play style. He reportedly comes recommended by John McDermott, academy director at Spurs – where Lameiras came through the youth academy.

He started his career in the youth academy with Premier League side Spurs but didn’t make any senior appearances for the club. After a brief stint on loan in Sweden with Atvidabergs, Lameiras made a permanent move to Coventry City in 2015. He played 69 times for the Sky Blues, scoring seven goals and providing six assists before joining Plymouth.
