Rangers set to return for Oldham Athletic defender with renewed offer

Glasgow giants Rangers are believed to be ready to submit a new and improved transfer bid for highly-rated Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson according to reports by the Daily Record.

The 21-year-old Wythenshawe-born centre-back has recently put in a transfer request to leave Boundary Park and the player is thought to be on the radar of several clubs.

Ladbrokes Premiership club Rangers have already had a transfer offer of around £400,000 for Edmundson rejected by Oldham Athletic, however, it is now believed that The Gers will return with an increased bid of £500,000. The proposed deal is expected to include a number of clauses which could see The Latics receive further sums should Edmundson go on and be a success north of the border.

Edmundson is a graduate of the Oldham Athletic academy with the player having initially joined the club as a scholar in 2013. The youngster made his senior debut for the Lancashire outfit in an EFL Trophy fixture two years later, just months after signing his first professional deal at Boundary Park.

The defender has enjoyed a hugely impressive campaign which has seen him featured for The Latics on 54 occasions in which he has scored two goals. Edmundson’s fine 2018/2019 saw him named in the Sky Bet League Two Team of the Season.
