Exeter City confirm signing of Carlisle United defender

Exeter City have confirmed the signing of Carlisle United’s Tom Parkes on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

The 27-year-old defender had been at Carlisle for two years since signing for them in 2017. He however struggled to break into the first team and he only made 13 appearances for the Cumbrians before his release this summer. But it didn’t take too long for him to find a new club as Exeter have snapped him up on a free transfer.

Parkes, who has previously played for the likes of Leyton Orient, Bristol Rovers and Leicester City, jumped at the chance to sign with Exeter. The Grecians came close to qualifying for the Sky Bet League Two play-offs, finishing in 9th place and being just one point off 7th placed Newport County. And Parkes couldn’t wait to sign for a team who will likely be challenging for the same places next season.

He said: “I am happy to be here,”

“I got a phone call from my agent saying that Exeter were interested in signing me and I came down last week and had a look at the training facilities and everything and I was very pleased with everything that was going on down here. I didn’t think there was any problems for me not to sign here.”

“It is exciting that you have got a club that is always pushing to try and get promotion. I have had two promotions when I was at Bristol and hopefully I can get another one at this club.”
