Aston Villa leading race including Manchester City and Celtic to sign Charlton Athletic midfielder

Aston Villa are leading a race which includes Manchester City, Celtic and Rangers to sign Charlton Athletic’s Joe Aribo according to a report from The Sun.

The 22-year-old midfielder is a talent and has shown himself to be one of the best young midfielders in Sky Bet League One this season. He scored ten goals for the Addicks this season and helped lead them to the League One play-off final. He’ll be wanting to add to that tally tomorrow when they take on Sunderland in that final.

But it appears that will be his last game for Charlton. Aribo’s contract is set to expire in the summer and even if they do get promoted tomorrow, the former Staines Town midfielder is most likely going to leave. And some of the best teams in Great Britain have noted this and got in the race to sign him. Both Rangers and Celtic are very interested in bringing him north of the border while even domestic treble winners Manchester City have been impressed with him.

But even with those massive clubs chasing Aribo, this report says that Aston Villa are leading the race to sign him. No matter what happens in their own play-off final on Monday against Derby County, they are hoping to bring in the talented midfielder. The report doesn’t say why Aribo is most likely to head to the Second City but it could be that a place in their first team is more likely there than at some of other teams interested in him.
