Sheffield United in discussions with Manchester United over ‘keeper return deal – Wilder

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has said to the Press Association Sport (quotes via The Independent) that they are working their way through talks with Manchester United over a deal for ‘keeper Dean Henderson.

Sheffield United are keen on a summer deal to bring last season’s loan hero Dean Henderson back to the club this summer, and talks are taking place between the two clubs.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said recently that a season gathering Premier League experience could benefit Henderson, with first-team chances at Old Trafford unlikely. Henderson too has said that he would be keen on a return to Bramall Lane this summer after helping them to the top-flight.

“We’re working our way through it,” Wilder said regarding discussions over a deal for Henderson.

“We’ve been in discussions with Manchester United and I think they see it as a positive that he gets a year of Premier League football under his belt.

“I know Dean definitely wants to stop and our supporters absolutely adore him. We’ve got a good relationship with Manchester United and if Dean signs we’ll be delighted.

“He’s been outstanding since he’s been at the club. He had a fantastic loan period at Shrewsbury, he’s kicked on and has a wonderful future ahead of him.”

Henderson had a thoroughly successful year with Sheffield United. The 22-year-old played 46 Championship games for the club, keeping 21 clean sheets and conceding just 41 goals on the way to securing automatic promotion.

The former Grimsby Town and Shrewsbury Town loanee is keen to play first-team Premier League football next season as he looks to earn a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020.
