Spurs pursuit of Leeds United wonderkid – latest update

It’s the post-season in football for Leeds United fans, a very ‘antsy’ time when social media is checked, nay scoured, for any link to the club.

In a way, that ‘scouring’, for that is what it is for a lot of fans, is like football oxygen for them in the post-season, de-footballed months. Rumours, suppositions, hints, leads..they are all the same – treated as faint wisps to make the May-August stretch all that more bearable.

One of the biggest gasps that fans intake is that regarding possible transfers to the club – the ‘incomings’ so to speak. Over the course of the next few weeks the action there will ramp up somewhat.

However, it is the ‘outgoings’ that Leeds United fans fear the worst and it is these that cause a sharp release of breath. Whites fans already know that it will be a ‘difficult’ window over the summer – Andrea Radrizzani has told them as much. This has led many fans to worry that it will become a sell-to-buy window like many that have gone before it.

The biggest fear here is interest in youngster Jack Clarke from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, who are contesting the Champions League final against Liverpool soon. It is something that we’ve written about previously here on the72.

Amidst rumours going around that Clarke has left Leeds United for Spurs, here’s an update from Sun reporter Alan Nixon (below) via his personal Twitter feed.

After starring for the Under-23s, Clarke burst onto the scene in this season’s Sky Bet Championship with 22 appearances totalling 396 minutes. During his time on the pitch, Clarke racked up two goals (against Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest) as well as assists against Sheffield United and Derby County.

It is this output and undoubted potential that will see youngster Clarke rightly put on a pedestal. The question is, will Leeds’ resolve stay steady in the face of Premier League interest or will the Whites fold like a badly stacked house of cards when the cheque book is held open?

With Leeds United already subject to what Radrizzani has termed a ‘difficult’ transfer window, a bid of £15million, should this be the correct amount, will be very hard for the Whites to resist. Restructuring comes at a price, that price looks like it could be on Jack Clarke’s head.
