Middlesbrough make bid for Grimsby Town striker

According to BBC Humberside and Look North journalist Matt Dean, Middlesbrough have tabled a bid for Grimsby Town striker Rumarn Burrell.

Grimsby Town forward Rumarn Burrell could be on his way to Middlesbrough this summer, with the North-East side putting in a bid of £100,000 plus add ons. The teenager only signed his first professional deal in April this year but he soon made his debut.

Burrell broke into the first team for the League Two side the same month, almost immediately after signing a contract, highlighting his quality. He played four games between making his first appearance and the end of the season, as Grimsby finished 17th in the fourth tier.

Middlesbrough have previously admitted they would like to sign promising young players from the lower divisions in the hope of developing them into first-teamers in the Championship. The prime example is central midfielder Lewis Wing who cemented his place in the starting eleven, having signed from Shildon in The Northern League Division One the previous season.

The Teessiders also acquired the services of teenage right-back Djed Spence from Fulham and central-defender Sam Stubbs from Wigan in the past year for small fees, with the latter heading out on loan to Notts County in January, where he has impressed despite the Magpies’ relegation to the National League.

Burrell will hope to break into the Middlesbrough first team in the coming seasons, but may have to bide his time with current forwards Britt Assombalonga, Ashley Fletcher and Rudy Gestede currently occupying the role up front.
