Grimsby Town keen on recently released Doncaster Rovers defender

Grimsby Town are keen on left-back Tyler Garratt.

The 22-year-old has been released by League One side Doncaster Rovers and could be heading to Blundell Park on a free transfer, according to journalist Matt Dean on Twitter.

Garratt, who was born in Lincoln, spent some time training with the Mariners near the back-end of last season.

He spent the last campaign on loan at AFC Wimbledon in the third tier from Doncaster and played 13 games for the Dons in all competitions, chipping in with one goal and an assist.

Garratt spent his early career as a youngster playing for Lincoln City before joining Bolton Wanderers in 2013. He made his first-team debut for the Trotters in a Championship fixture against Cardiff City and went onto make two more appearances for the North-West before leaving.

He joined Donny in June 2016 for an undisclosed fee and has since played 28 times for them. He spent part of the 2016/17 season on loan in the National League with Eastleigh.

Grimsby could be Garratt’s next destination and he could be a shrewd signing by them. He is still young so potentially has a bright future ahead of him and he would offer them more options and depth in defence.

The Mariners finished 17th in League Two in this past season and will be looking to do better in the next campaign. Michael Jolley will be in the hunt for some signings over the coming months.
