Blackburn Rovers targeting Nantwich Town striker

Blackburn Rovers are targeting a move for Nantwich Town striker Joe Malkin.

The 21-year-old is being tipped for a big future in the game and is on the radar of the Championship side, as per a report by the Lancashire Telegraph.

Malkin was named Evo-Stik Premier Division Young Player of the Season after scoring 11 goals for Nantwich in the last campaign.

Blackburn are looking to bolster their youth ranks with a couple of signings this summer to join their Under-23’s side.

Malkin, who signed a two-year contract with Nantwich in January, joined the Dabbers last summer having previously been at North-West Counties Division One side Cammell Laird. He had scored 24 goals in the season prior to his move.

His dad, Chris Malkin, played for Tranmere Rovers and it looks like his son will be following in his father’s footsteps by becoming a professional footballer.

Nantwich’s director of football, Clive Jackson, has said: “It’s not a surprise there are clubs looking at Joe. We signed him from Cammell Laird and he’s taken the jump in standard completely in his stride. He’s still only 21 and he’s physically managing very well, he’s not being bullied in what is a physical league.

“He has shown great enthusiasm to learn, the coaches say he’s a pleasure to work with, and he’s a great lad to have around. Joe has good pedigree because of his dad, and there are clubs in the Championship and League One who have shown an interest.”

“We’ll support him in whatever way he chooses to develop his career, and we’ll be more than happy if he’s still with us next season.”
