Sheffield United are being linked with a move for Birmingham City winger Jota.

The Blades are looking at the Spanish winger as a potential summer acquisition, as per a report by the Sheffield Star.

Chris Wilder’s side are also looking at Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie, but face strong competition from Brighton and Hove Albion for his signature, as well as Middlesbrough forward Britt Assombalonga.

There is no doubt that Sheffield United need to strengthen their squad following their promotion to the Premier League this season.

Jota, who is 27 years-old, has proven that he has genuine quality over the past few years in the second tier and would offer the Yorkshire side more depth and another option in the attacking department.

The Spaniard played 41 times for Birmingham in all competitions in this campaign, scoring three goals and chipping in with nine assists. His contract at St Andrews expires in 2021.

Jota started his career at Celta Vigo but gained a reputation during a loan spell in the Spanish second division with Eibar, where he bagged 11 goals in 37 games.

Brentford brought him to England in 2014 for around €1.5 million and he became a huge player for the Bees. He played 75 times for the London side and scored 23 goals as well as returning for a brief spell back at Eibar in 2016.

Jota moved onto Brentford’s Championship rivals Birmingham in 2017 for a fee believed to be in the region of £6 million. Could he now be on his way to the Premier League with Sheffield United two years later?
