Former-Leicester and Derby County manager keen on Middlesbrough vacancy

Middlesbrough are still in the hunt for a new manager, and many who are in and out of work are interested in taking charge for the coming season.

According to Teesside Live, former Leicester City and Derby County boss Nigel Pearson is another interested in the vacant Middlesbrough managers’ position.

The 55-year old’s most recent job was in Belgium with OH Leuven. Pearson was at the club from September 2017 to February 2019, ultimately being sacked from his post and out of work.

He was previously linked to Middlesbrough back in 2017 before making the move to Belgium, but missed out to Garry Monk.

“I want to get back to work” said Pearson. “I want to find the next challenge, the right challenge.”

When asked if the Boro job would interest him, he replied:

Middlesbrough is a football club that anyone in my position would have to contemplate.

“It’s a fantastic club. It’s a fantastic job. And Steve Gibson is a fantastic chairman.”

Pearson is a former Middlesbrough player and has a connection with the supporters having been the captain of the promotion winning sides of 1994-95 and 1997-98. He is a seasoned veteran at Championship level and has managed a whole host of clubs in the second tier with mixed success.

His spell at Leicester City was certainly his finest moment, finishing top of the division with 102 points, nine clear of second placed Burnley. He enjoyed a ‘great escape’ the following season – avoiding relegation back down into the Championship having been bottom of the Premier League table at Christmas.
