Mansfield Town tell Nottingham Forest striker he is welcome to return

Mansfield Town head coach John Dempster has told the Mansfield and Ashfield Chad that Nottingham Forest’s Tyler Walker is welcome to return to the club.

The Stags have had a great season despite a disappointing end. They consistently challenged for the top places in Sky Bet League Two but ended up missing out on an automatic promotion spot. They then went into the play-offs but lost on penalties in the semi-finals to Newport County, meaning their season is now over and they will have to spend another year in League Two.

One of their best players this season was Walker, the 22-year-old striker scoring 22 goals in 44 appearances during his loan spell from Forest, making him the second highest scorer in the division. Now he is back at Forest and his future is in doubt with him set for talks with head coach Martin O’Neill about his future with them. And now Dempster has said that should Walker leave Forest, he would very welcome back at Mansfield.

He said: “I spoke to Tyler Walker this week and wished him well,”

“He is back at Forest speaking to the manager there to find to what their plans are with him. He could end up in their plans.”

“He is another player who has spoken very highly of this football club and loved his time here.”

“So I have encouraged him that he would be more than welcome back here next season if that was an option.”

“Being realistic, he is going to have a whole host of clubs that would want him if he was made available for loan, probably from higher divisions – we know that.”

“So that’s something we’ll just keep in the pipeline.”

“I just wanted to make sure Tyler knew how I felt about him and how this football club felt about him and if it was an option we’d love to have him back.”
