Derby County head coach Frank Lampard is set to become the new Chelsea head coach when Maurizio Sarri leaves according to a report from Italian publication Corriere Dello Sport via the Daily Mail.
Over in Italy there is a massive vacancy after Massimo Allegri decided to leave Juventus. Lots of the best managers in Europe have been linked with the role but the current favourite is Sarri. He has had a tough first season in the Premier League with Chelsea and many fans have called for his sacking though they do have a chance at silverware as they prepare to take on Arsenal in the Europa League. With this negative atmosphere surrounding Sarri, he might be very willing to get out and take on such a big job like at Juventus.
And should Sarri decide to leave Chelsea, the West London club know who they want. Instead of going for another high reputation foreign manager, they want to bring in a club legend. They want Lampard who during his time at Stamford Bridge showed himself to be one of the best players in their history and is currently their highest scorer of all time.
Lampard has only been in management for one year but he has done well with Derby. He guided them to the Sky Bet Championship play-offs and got a big win after coming back to beat Leeds United in the semi-finals. This means they will be facing Aston Villa in the play-off final but that could be Lampard’s last game in the Derby hot seat if Chelsea want to bring him in as their new manager.
