Derby County’s Max Lowe reflects on successful loan spell with Aberdeen

Derby County left-back Max Lowe has spent the 2018/2019 season on loan with Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen, enjoying a thoroughly successful spell in Scotland.

Now, speaking to the Derby County club website, he has been looking back on his time with Aberdeen. Lowe was named the players’ player of the year at Aberdeen after impressing for Derek McInnes’s side.

Lowe played 42 games during his time with Aberdeen, netting three goals and providing three assists along the way.

Speaking about his players’ player of the year award, Lowe said that he didn’t expect to win in, admitting that he thought new Derby signing Graeme Shinnie would’ve won it.

“That is probably the one award that all players want to win on awards nights, and I was buzzing. I was shocked as well because I didn’t think I was going to win it.

I thought Graeme Shinnie would have got it because he was the captain and the way he led the squad this season has been unbelievable.

“The likes of him Shay Logan, Joe Lewis, and all the experienced lads have helped me massively. I have worked hard this season so it’s nice to see they have seen that in my performances on the pitch and in training sessions.

“It was nice to get the vote off the boys and I was buzzing with it.”

Lowe admitted that at first, he was hesitant to make the loan move to Aberdeen, but has said his team mates helped him blend in fast and help him reach the best of his abilities at Pittodrie.

I loved my time at Aberdeen,” he said. “I was a bit hesitant going up to Scotland at first, moving away from home for the first time but I felt like I was at the age to kick on and get games under my belt.

“It took me around a month to adapt. The gaffer started me in the first two games, then I was in and out for a bit. It took me a while to get used to the pace and the physicality of the league but as soon as I settled down, I was fine.

“The boys were good in the changing room, they are a great group and the gaffer helped me with my game in training sessions so I felt like I was part of the team straight away. That stability gave me consistency in my performances as well so it was good.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to do that at Aberdeen. It is a big club; we had a good season and I’m just happy to 40+ games for them.”
