Port Vale “speaking to lots of players” with transfer deals imminent

John Askey has signed a new three-year deal at Port Vale, as announced by their official club website this morning.

He joined the Vale Park in February on a contract until the end of the season and managed to keep them in League Two.

The former Macclesfield Town and Shrewsbury Town boss has signed a deal with the Valiants until 2021 and is now looking to bring in some new signings.

Askey has said, as per their website: “I’m really pleased to extend my stay here. To get the job initially was great for me and things have gone reasonably well.

“When I came in I reiterated that the most important thing is that the club does well. If we’d have gone down with me in charge, I’m not sure I could’ve lived with myself.

“Now being able to start fresh before the season, I want to do well for myself, but most importantly I want success for the football club. The summer is the busiest and most important time as a manager, but hopefully we can acquire the right characters who want to play for Port Vale.”

Askey also said that he is expecting to make some signings soon as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of next season: “I’ve been speaking to lots of players and hopefully a couple will come in today, but it’s ongoing now and we need to get the timing correct – it’s about holding your nerve”

Port Vale fans will be hoping that next season they can compete at the top end of the division as opposed to the bottom again. Some new signings will help them do that.
