West Brom shortlist Northern Ireland manager and Charlton Athletic boss as potential Darren Moore replacement

West Bromwich Albion have shortlisted Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill and Charlton Athletic head coach Lee Bowyer as potential replacements for Darren Moore according to a report from The Sun.

The Baggies have been without a permanent manager for a few months after the surprising sacking of Darren Moore back in March. After they failed to appoint Alex Neil from Preston North End as their new manager, with him deciding instead to sign a new contract with the Lilywhites, they decided to let Jimmy Shan stay in charge until the end of the season. He would guide them to the Sky Bet Championship play-offs though they lost to West Midlands rivals Aston Villa in the semi-finals.

Shan will not be the manager permanently and so West Brom are now looking for the man who will take them forward into the 2019/20 season. And while a lot of people have been linked to the role since the departure of Moore, two more have been shortlisted and be in discussions soon. Those are O’Neill, who is currently in charge at Northern Ireland, and the current manager of Charlton Bowyer.

O’Neill has been one of the best managers Northern Ireland have had, famously guiding them to the Last 16 of Euro 2016. But West Brom feel confident that they would be able to persuade him to return to club football despite the success he has had with them. Bowyer is doing very well with Charlton and will not want to be distracted by these rumours as the Addicks prepare to face Sunderland in the Sky Bet League One play-off final.
