According to respected Italian media site Gianluca Di Marzio, and carried by his Twitter feed (below), Serie A side Roma are an outfit currently interested in bringing onboard Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa.

In his first season in English football, Marcelo Bielsa has not only wowed neutrals but he has turned around the fortunes of the juggernaut that is Leeds United. He has come in, stamped his brand of football on the Whites and turned them from a side that limped to 13th place in 2017/18 to a side that ended 3rd this last campaign.

Not only has he changed the style of football that Leeds play, he’s also introduced a whole new ethos for the Whites. It is an ethos that percolates down through all levels at the club, from the first team set-up to the youth levels. At Elland Road, all iterations of Leeds United play BielsaBall.

It served the Whites well this season, but the season came to a juddering end when Derby County overcame a 1-0 Pride Park loss to beat Leeds on their own Elland Road patch 4-2 on Wednesday night. With Bielsa being on a one-year deal with the club holding an option to extend, thoughts now turn to whether the Argentinian legend will stay or move on.

IT is definitely an uncertainty that Leeds United fans have entertained, some of them fearing that eventuality happening after a season filled with such hope. It will be uncertainty and fear added to with news from Gianluca Di Marzio.

In the above linked article entitled ‘Roma, the Bielsa hypothesis for the bench’, the Italian media site says that Marcelo Bielsa is one of the names that “circulate” for an appointment at Roma next season. They say that Bielsa is “among the names in the notebook of the executives” as the Rome-based side look to push for the Serie A title next season.

Hope for Leeds United fans is that others such as Maurizio Sarri (Chelsea) and Gian Piero Gasperini (Atalanta) are also in the frame. The caveat in place, though, is that Roma could pursue Bielsa should Atalanta not free Gasperini or Chelsea release Sarri.

Gianluca Di Marzio say that Bielsa is due to meet the Leeds United hierarchy early next week to see if they are to continue the work from last season. They say that there is likely a “probable divorce” and that Roma fans might want to prepare themselves to “expect developments.” It will be these sort of ‘developments’ that Leeds United fans will fear.
