Hull City and Nottingham Forest striker Lawrence Shankland is leaving Ayr United this summer.
The 23-year-old has scored 62 goals in 73 games for the Scottish Championship side and is now looking forward to the next chapter of his career, as per a report by The Scottish Sun.
Shankland won’t be short of options after his impressive last two seasons in front of goal and is a target for the Hull and Forest as well as Swansea City and Sunderland.
He started his career with Queen’s Park and a decent goal scoring season in 2012/13 earned him a move to Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen. He spent four years on the books at Pittodrie but failed to score in 17 appearances for them.
Instead, Shankland spent time out on loan at Dunfermline Athletic, St Mirren and Greenock Morton before leaving Aberdeen permanently to join Ayr in the summer of 2017.
He fired 29 goals in the Scottish third tier in the 2017/18 season to fire the Somerset Park club to title and has managed 34 in all competitions this term. He is their most prized asset but they will lose him in a couple of months’ time.
It will be interesting to see where Shankland ends up this summer. Whoever he joins will have a promising talent on their hands and he could be one of the signings of the season in the Championship if he can carry on his prolific goal scoring form.
