Swansea City midfielder wants to move to Everton

Swansea City’s Matt Grimes wants to move to Everton according to a report from the Football Insider.

The 23-year-old midfielder is one of the many talented young players currently on the books at Swansea. He signed for the Swans in 2015 from Exeter City where he was very good but he did struggle to break into the South Wales’ side first team. Instead, he was sent out on loan to teams such as Blackburn Rovers, Leeds United and Northampton Town with varying degrees of success.

Because of Swansea’s financial problems, they have been forced to bring many of their young players into the first team this season. While it meant they didn’t challenge immediately for promotion like they would have wanted after their relegation last season, many of their youngsters did impress and show that they have a lot of potential going forward. Oliver McBurnie and Daniel James grabbed the headlines due to their performance but Grimes also got a lot of fans this year for the level of his performances.

This has led Everton to be interested in signing Grimes as they had success in signing young talents from the Championship, notably Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Sheffield United. Reports also indicate that they are also interested in Daniel James and have made approaches for both but they have a big advantage in the race for Grimes. This report states that the midfielder wants the move to Everton and that he will be pushing for it to happen. Everton will still have to pay up though as Swansea are wanting £10m for the player.
