Paul Hurst will be looking to guide Scunthorpe United to an immediate promotion back to League One next season. Here are five players he could sign for the Iron-
Luke Maxwell- The 21-year-old midfielder impressed in the National League this season for Solihull Moors and helped them finish 2nd. Hurst had him on loan for Grimsby Town in 2017 from Birmingham City. The youngster looks a real talent and would be a shrewd signing for Scunthorpe.
Gavin Gunning- He played under Hurst at Grimsby as well. The 28-year-old defender currently plays for Forest Green Rovers having previously played for the likes of Dundee United and Port Vale. He would tighten up Scunny’s defence.
Joe Riley- The right-back couldn’t prevent Plymouth Argyle from slipping into League Two recently. He was Hurst’s right-back at Shrewsbury Town and helped the League One side get to the Checkatrade Trophy final and the Play-Off final during his time there.
Nathan Thomas- He has spent time on loan at Shrewsbury Town, Notts County and Carlisle United from Sheffield United over recent seasons. The 24-year-old winger would add more attacking options for Scunthorpe for League Two next season.
Lenell John-Lewis- Hurst has managed the 29-year-old striker at both Grimsby and Shrewsbury. He is a vastly experienced forward having played just under 400 games in his career. John-Lewis is still on the books at New Meadow but you wouldn’t bet against him linking up with Hurst for a third time this summer at Glanford Park.
