Top 50 Players of the EFL – 14th: Darren Randolph (Middlesbrough)

Middlesbrough goalkeeper Darren Randolph has been voted by you as the 14th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Randolph is the 14th best player in the Football League. This is the first time that he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

When you follow the Best Player of the Season votes, usually the goalkeeper gets short shrift because if the team is doing well, all the praise goes to the guys doing amazing things in front of him. In fact, the only time goalkeepers seem to get to the top of the polls is when the team is struggling. This usually means the keeper gets to see more action because of a poorer defence and hence when he makes those crucial saves, he gets all the praise he deserves.

This is not really the case with Randolph and Middlesbrough. While the fans were not happy with the way the team played they did get very close to the Sky Bet Championship play-offs on the final day. But even so, the fans loved Randolph and many would claim that if it wasn’t for his shot-stopping ability, they wouldn’t have been that near the top six. They’ll then go on about how much they hate Tony Pulis but that’s beside the point. He made 49 appearances this season and fans are hoping he’ll make many more for them.
